I Didn't Think We'd Grow Up

about

When I was about 12 years old, my childhood friend of the blue one day told me she hated me and did not want to be friends anymore. It came as such a shock, and I still don't understand it until this day. But I have learned that this is a common occurrence for kids as they grow up, and that I wasn't alone even though I thought I was.

lyrics

We played in your front yard
As the neighbors cars drove by
With swords made of cardboard
We imagined a valiant fight
As darkness came upon us
My mom she called me home
But I knew that the next day
I’d come over

I didn’t think we’d grow up
I didn’t think we’d change
With four leaf clover good luck
Our lives would see no pain
I wish you’d kept your promise
To never leave my side
But eyes find other love
And hearts they cry

I sent you a message
You left me no reply
I don’t know why I try so hard
To find a reason why
It’s funny how we grew up
It’s funny how we changed
And it’s been a long hard road
But I’m ok

I didn’t think we’d grow up
I didn’t think we’d change
With four leaf clover good luck
Our lives would see no pain
I wish you’d kept your promise
To never leave my side
But eyes find other love
And hearts they cry
